ABOUT Mind Over Land

Based in North Carolina, Mind Over Land is an active and enthusiastic group of veterans with a love for the outdoors. Their events and activities take place year-round, all across the United States. They like to keep up the energy and excitement, always welcoming new Veterans to take part. Simply put, they love getting outdoors and love taking trips to build positive memories.

The Impact

Trails of Renewal: Veterans Overland Initiative consists of four all-expenses-paid overlanding expeditions across the East Coast. These expeditions combine off-road travel, guided outdoor skills training, environmental stewardship, and community-building activities. Each trip spans 72 hours and is intentionally designed to create space for healing, resilience-building, and connection—particularly during evening campfire conversations, where veterans often begin processing experiences they have carried alone for years.

The Overland Expo Foundation grant will directly support trip costs such as fuel, campsite fees, meals, essential gear, and environmental stewardship supplies. for over 100 veterans, prioritizing those who may not otherwise have access to supportive outdoor programs or peer-based healing environments. Every veteran attends at no cost, ensuring financial barriers never prevent someone from receiving support.

These trips do more than provide recreation—they restore connection, build confidence, and create lasting community. Veterans leave with new skills, renewed purpose, and a strengthened support network that continues long after the final campfire. By removing barriers and offering free, fully supported experiences, Trails of Renewal ensures that veterans most in need have a pathway to healing, growth, and renewal in the outdoors.
