The Overland Expo Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of a $2,175 grant to Tread Lightly! for their Glenwood Pedlar – Tank Hollow Rd. appliance recovery and cleanup.

With support from a small team of outdoor motorized recreation enthusiasts, Tread Lightly! will contribute to an effort within the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest Glenwood Pedlar Ranger District to remove multiple household appliances which have been down a deep ravine for multiple years.  As time has passed, the appliances have traversed further down the ravine and have become very difficult to retrieve.

ABOUT Tread Lightly!

Tread Lightly! is a non-profit organization that leads a national initiative to promote the responsible use of motorized vehicles when recreating outdoors. Our goal is to balance the off-road and off-highway vehicle (OHV) users’ need for adventure with the need to conserve the places where they ride and explore.

The Impact

This project will help to return the area to its natural beauty for future overanders and campers who use George Washington-Jeff National Forest.  There are more than 40 developed campgrounds and 3 cabins in the Glenwood Pedlar Ranger District.

Using standard winchline and multiple added attachments, the team of workers retrieved 1 refrigerator after working for 4 hours on April 12, 2025. The team of workers will finish the full retrieval of the remaining appliances so that this area is free of ugly debris for the motorized users who travel this area for camping, overlanding and enjoyment of this national forest land.  Removing the appliances will hopefully discourage future dumping in the area.
