Tread Lightly! is a non-profit organization that leads a national initiative to promote the responsible use of motorized vehicles when recreating outdoors. Their goal is to balance the off-road and off-highway vehicle (OHV) users’ need for adventure with the need to conserve the places where they ride and explore.
Tread Lightly! received grant funding to support several projects in 2024. Projects included:
- Installing a kiosk and sign at Edge of the World near Sedona, AZ
- Trail cleanup along Argentine Pass, CO
- Trail cleanup along Kingston Pass, CO
- Joint project with Overland Expo Foundation to provide Kids’ Educations at Overland Expo events
"We are so appreciative of the help and support of great Tread Lightly! partners like BFGoodrich Tires and Overland Expo Foundation for helping us create and install valuable educational signage that informs motorized recreation users how to enjoy our beautiful public lands with respect, helping us Protect the Adventure for generations to come.”
Michelle Ramos, Tread Lightly! Arizona Program Manager
Positive Impact
On October 12, the Rising Sun 4 Wheel Drive Club of Colorado headed out to Argentine Pass for a cleanup and ride. This is one of the favorite trails by the group and receives regular maintenance and cleanups, because of this the group removed 65lbs of trash and scouted a few sections of trail that will need work due to erosion.
On October 19, the Rising Sun 4 Wheel Drive Club hit the trail again this time to Kingston Pass. This is another trail that receives constant attention from the group and 180lbs of trash were removed.
On December 2, Tread Lightly!, AZ Plasma, and BFGoodrich Tires Outstanding trails, and the USFS all came together to install an informational kiosk at the trailhead to Edge of the world. The trailhead leads to over 26 miles of trail through a breathtaking canyon and fantastics views of the Sedona and Oak Creeks. Due to it’s heavy use by overlanders, off-roaders, and dispersed campers, the signs were very much needed to inform recreationalists about legal trails, area rules, and responsible recreation education.
Throughout the year, Tread Lightly! and the Overland Expo Foundation teamed up at Overland Expo events to provide Kids Education through an RC Driving course. Read more about the initiative here: Kids Driving Course
